The name Toronto is derived from the Mohawk word tkaronto, which means “where there are trees standing in the water.”

I acknowledge that what my family and I are able to refer to as home is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
